Gerbil + Ball = ?

Super Gerball, of course! This game, coming from Binary Sun, has a simple premise. You're Gerry the Gerbil. You have to make it through a dangerous house of 60 levels, in a Marble Madness/ Super Monkey Ball type game. Now, I'm a sucker for these games, so when I saw the demo, I had to download it and try it out. How did it stack up? Let's find out...

*~Graphics~*

Not much to talk about here. Simple textures, but they work. The whole thing reminds me of the walls in Green Hill Zone in the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Checkered, and on medium, brown. Not a whole lot to say, what is there, does its job.

7/10

*~Sound~*

Well... it started off good... but eventually you want to turn the sound down to off. A 30 second clip repeated over and over again does not make good music. The announcer voice was good, as was the scream of death as you threw Gerry to his demise.

5.5/10

*~Gameplay~*

The meat and potatoes of any game. This was a pleseant suprise. Although there were only 7 demo levels, what I saw and played I liked. Gerry was a pain to control with a mouse, and keyboard wasn't much better. However, using a gamepad worked wonders. (Side note: It was a bit difficult to understand the options menu and to get a gamepad working) The easy levels were stupidly easy, and the medium levels were a much needed challange. The hard mode alone in the full version should keep even the best of ball rollers on their toes.

9/10

~*Summary*~

As I said, I'm a sucker for ball games like this one. Sure, the graphics aren't much and the sound will make you want to tear your hair out, but for what is here, it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

8/10 (not an average)
